Effects of Rumba Sports Dances on the ROM of Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain

Abstract
The objective of this study was to understand the effects of hip movement from rumba, a sort of dance sports, on the lumbar stabilization in the patients with chronic lumbar pain as a method to relieve lumbar pain. 20 patients with decreased ROM to experience chronic lumbar pain had total 12 times of dance sports, 2 times a week for 6 weeks. Then the curve, flex, and changes in the curve of the left and right side of the lumbar has been analyzed. SPSS 20.0 program for window has been used for the statistical analysis in the significance level of p<.05. The curve, flex, and changes in the curve of the left and right side of the lumbar has been significantly increased after the exercise in every assessments (p<.05). In chronic patients, however, one treatment could not increase the range of joint movement. The curve, flex, and changes in the curve of the left and right side of the lumbar joint has been significantly increased from the 5th exercise. And all of them has been significantly enhanced since the 9th exercise. The patients with chronic lumbar pain also showed significant difference in the range of joint movement all. The changes in the range of joint movement by rumba dance in the patients with chronic lumbar pain also showed statistical significance. In conclusion, it is considered that lumbar stabilization exercise by rumba brings clinically positive effects together with other existing exercise programs.
